I also have a picture of the "trotline" it had out, a line with little "bolas" hanging from it. What an unusual spider!danikamomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15233079279530863337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201241308485646302.post-3809348915989088032013-06-08T23:56:22.497-04:002013-06-08T23:56:22.497-04:00Thank you so much for this post! I live in SE Michigan and came across the most colorful, most green spider I've ever seen today, photo here https://twitter.com/whatwaitwhat/status/343572774457077761/photo/1 . The picture is frustratingly not in focus, but your post helped me ID it. I believe it to be an orchid spider and I am considering driving the 30 minutes to photograph it properly.
If you are serious about cataloging Ohio/NA spiders, consider recruiting citizen scientist through Instagram. I am a bench scientist who works with bugs unseen to the naked eye, but adore taking pictures of spiders using macro attachments with my iphone. There is quite a large community on Instagram who do too, with stunning results; hashtag "arthropodsanonymous" is a favorite. Thanks again! Brought to mind the bolas spider -Mastophora phrynosoma, that Dr. Bradley helped me ID in 2009 in Loudonville, Ohio. Already have that awesome book on my coffee table thanks to my friend, Jonna who attended a conference at which Dr. Bradley spoke. I'm hoping to be her side-kick as she starts a survey of Oak Opening spiders.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00548755592157386484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4201241308485646302.post-48315771200269346172013-02-26T23:00:14.155-05:002013-02-26T23:00:14.155-05:00Great post; I love spiders. Good luck with the jumpers; they generally run away before I get good shots of them.

I particularly like your lynx; I've only seen green lynxes in person, didn't realize what pretty patterns they can have.
